REV. RICHARD ANNETT'S RESPONSE TO COVID-19
Greetings Church Family,
Before sharing our latest update at Palisades United Methodist Church regarding the COVID-19 virus, I am reminded of this scripture passage from Psalm 46:13;10-11
God is our refuge and strength; a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult. ‘Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.’ The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Many of you know that on Sunday, March 15th, Governor Gavin Newsom advised everyone over the age of 65 to isolate themselves and remain indoors. With this new information the leadership team at Palisades United Methodist Church and I have decided to cancel all gatherings for at least the next two weeks (Bible study, Lenten Series, Faithfully Fit, Lunch Bunch and all others) . In the coming days we will be sending information out regarding Sunday morning worship online. We feel this is our best response in helping to keep our congregation safe and be part of slowing the spread of the virus. This includes Sunday morning worship and midweek gatherings. As the public health office has noted,
“The timely implementation of aggressive strategies that create social distance and those that reduce close contact of people not regularly together, including limiting gatherings, has proven effective in prior pandemics at delaying rates of transmission and reducing illness and death.”
For those of us in our community who come to Bible study on Wednesday mornings, I am in the process of recording the Bible study for this week and will be posting it online for anyone who would like to give it a listen. Everyone will be receiving a link on how to get access to the Bible study in the days to come. For our Lenten series a study guide will be sent by email.
During this time of uncertainty, we would like to encourage all to faithfully continue upholding pledges and tithes. You can stop by during the week or mail your gracious gifts into the church office. By doing this, we will be able to continue supporting our ministries and staff. Our office will remain open during the week from 9 am until 1 pm for the next two weeks. Our choir will still be rehearsing, preparing for Easter Sunday. We will be on this modified schedule for the next two weeks and prayerfully will be back to in person worship on Palm Sunday.
As a community of faith, we are here to support one another through both good and stressful times. If you or anyone you know is unable to go to the store to pick up supplies that will be needed in the weeks to come, please do not hesitate to call the office at (949) 496-5502 or contact me directly at email@example.com. We have a team ready to serve.
Finally, and most importantly, continue to be in prayer for our world, our community, and our church. We are not alone. You are not alone. As Paul reminds us in Romans 8, "Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
In His Love,
